À part les résultats sportifs, que retiendra-t-on de la 45e édition du Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins?

• La parité entre les équipes nous a procuré tout un spectacle. Les équipes du Canada, du Québec, des États-Unis, de la Colombie, du Maroc et quelques équipes régionales comme CF Racing, Racers Against Childhood Cancer, Borah Development et ISCorp ont bataillé ferme. Ça fait du bien après une année complètement dominée par un Dream Team américain en 2012.
• Justement, on a été agréablement surpris par l'équipe du Maroc qui n'avait jamais fait de course à l'extérieur de leur pays. Ils étaient à l'avant et à l'attaque et ont presque ravi le maillot à pois de meilleur grimpeur à la Colombie lors de la dernière étape.
• La malchance de l'équipe Allemagne-Brunéi. Les deux coureurs du Brunéi ont abandonné lors des 14 premiers kilomètres du Tour après avoir été ralentis par un chute un des deux coureurs allemands a aussi abandonné lors de la première étape. Cette malchance a été compensée par le brio d'Alexander Hofner, seul survivant de cette équipe qui a combattu un virus intestinal et qui était à l'attaque lors des trois dernières étapes.
• Autre malchanceux: Marc Dufour qui tombe en moto lors du contre-la-montre individuel et termine avec un genou amoché, des jointures ouvertes et un pied mal en point. Mention spéciale à un atelier de soudure d'Évain pour une réparation de moto ultra-rapide et à Patrick Roberge pour avoir pris la relève sur la Ducati!
• La soirée karaoke du vendredi soir. On en a assez dit. Ça a fait des dommages dans la caravane le samedi!
• Mention spéciale à Hugo Lacroix, photographe officiel du Tour. Allez voir son travail sur sa page Facebook. Impressionnant.

Aside from the official results, what will we remember about the 45th edition of the Tour de l'Abitibi Desjardins?

• The even level of performance between top teams provided quite a show. Team from Canada, Quebec, USA, Colombia and Morocco and some regional teams like CF Racing, Racers Against Childhood Cancer, Borah Development and ISCorp fought hard against each other. It was good to see that after total domination by an American Dream Team in 2012.
• Speaking of Morocco, it was a pleasant surprise to see they could fight with the top teams. Their riders had never raced outside of Morocco before coming to Abitibi. They rode up front and came close to stealing the polka-dot jersey of best climber to Colombia on the last stage.
• An unlucky Germany-Brunei team. Their two reiders from Brunei abandoned after 14km of the first stage after having gotten caught behind a crash. One of the German riders also abandoned later in the first stage. All of this was offset by the performance of Alexander Hofner, sole survivor of the team who overcame a gastric virus and was attacking during the last three stages.
• Another unlucky man: Marc Dufour from neutral support who fell with his motorcycle during the time trial and ended up with ripped knuckles, a battered knee and very sore foot. A special thank you to a machine shop in Evain for an ultra-quick motorcycle repair and to Patrick Roberge for replacing Marc on the Ducati!
• The karaoke night on Friday night. Enough said. It did damage in the caravan on Saturday!
